...experiences have clearly shown that an approach which "de-medicalizes" birth, restores dignity and humanity to the process of childbirth, and returns control to the mother is also the safest approach.
Michel Odent, MD

I started this journey into birth work 11 years ago as a study buddy for my mother, now homebirth midwife Juli Tilsner as she was learning about becoming a Bradley Method Childbirth Educator. After learning about the state of birth in the US, I decided I just had to do something!! I started a midwifery apprenticeship at a Free Standing Birth Center in San Francisco and attended the Heart and Hands Beginner’s Midwifery training which included certification as a doula. I immediately jumped in doing doula work and created a very successful doula practice. After 7 years of attending births, I took a two year hiatus to have my own daughter. The birth of my baby was such and amazing, intense, and rewarding experience. I founded my own doula training program in 2006, which has been incredibly fun and amazing. After my daughter Violette’s first birthday, I decided to begin attending births once more. I have been back as a doula for a year and a half, and it is fantastic! I have attended 127 births and plan to become a midwife one day soon.
